On a quiet, relaxed, late summer sunny Sunday, the first Christian Holstad museum solo show in Europe opened at Galleria Civica di Modena. Over twenty works were arranged by Holstad in a whole unique, dusky, melanchonic installation. The path is delimited by black sands, chains and dramatic spotlights. Arguably, the best part of the show is its very entrance, a precarious, low-tech wooden cabin housing the new commissioned twelve drawings of the Via Crucis.

Though very long – not to mention it’s hard to get directions in Bolzano unless you speak German – the journey is definitely worthy. The painful ugliness of censorship is taken to its very extreme: the steamy, vintage police ambushes to arrest gays having sex in public toilets is clearly visible through the vindow gallery, right on the street.
