London – HEADS AND TAILS

by mousse

June 7~2010

In February 2010, the Berlin based gallery 401contemporary has opened a new project space in London. Their current group show, “HEADS AND TAILS”, featuring Mauro Bonacina, Norbert Schwontkowski and Brent Stewart, evolves around the different layers and aspects of the notion of game, in which something both entertaining and funny, as well as existential and unfathomable always resonates. At the same time, it examines elements of the game as a technique and as the basis of artistic practices.

Torino – Mirror Project

by mousse

June 7~2010

Mirror Project is a series of exhibitions organized by Barriera, Turin, where the invited artists will work and discuss with the space, developing a site specific project. The protagonist of Mirror Project’s first edition is Renato Leotta. Leotta worked on space-time coordinates, defining a new path within the exhibition space. The physical experience of place and history was revised by the artist through the use of symbols and their fascination, to create a synthetic result aesthetically manifested through mathematical calculations. The artist brought changes to the exhibition space to act directly in the communication mechanisms that move a room.

Salerno – The Mousetrap at Galleria Tiziana Di Caro

by mousse

June 2~2010

Wolf von Kries, Boomerang, 2002.

The Mousetrap or Something old something new something borrowed something blue, which will inaugurate tomorrow at 7 pm at Galleria Tiziana Di Caro in Salerno, is an exhibition that pits a selection of historical conceptualists such as Keith Arnatt, William Anastasi and Christine Kozlov against a younger generation of artists including Nina Beier, Etienne Chambaud, Alexander Gutke, Wolf von Kries and Kate Owens. The show, curated by Chris Sharp, borrows its double title from Hamlet and an early work by Lawrence Weiner. Referring to the play within the play, the mise-en-abyme – conceived and named “The Mousetrap” by Hamlet himself – and a moment in conceptual art where art becomes a non-narrative form of language, The Mousetrap is a reflection on the narrative capacity of tautological art.

Vienna – Michael Fliri at the Generali Foundation

by mousse

June 1~2010

This evening, at 8 pm, Michael Fliri will be the protagonist of his own performances at the Generali Foundation in Vienna.
The performances of the Italian artist are experimental arrangements of the subject against a refractory or indifferent outside world. Entirely without pathos, the cowboy, punk, footballer, or suicide attacker is entangled in somewhat helpless forms of failure as if painstaking repetition and demonstration of that failure was the only real act of heroism.

Bologna – Carnozet

by mousse

June 1~2010

Adrien Missika, Standing Waves 01, 2009

Until July 23, Vacancies, a residence program created by Car Projects to allow a selected group of artists to spend a research period in Bologna, will host Adrien Missika, Stéphane Barbier Bouvet, Benjamin Valenza, Jeanne Graff and Stéphane Kropf. The title of the exhibition, Carnozet, curated by Jeanne Graff, refers to a traditional Swiss cellar, typical of most old houses. The show stages the artificial reconstruction of a functional place.
