A CLOCK THAT RUNS ON MUD at Galeria Stereo, Poznań

by mousse

September 8~2011

A CLOCK THAT RUNS ON MUD is an attempt to unravel a quandary in the form of theories, propositions, works and writings on the concept of ‘muddy time’. A CLOCK THAT RUNS ON MUD was originally produced as a virtual exhibition at neromagazine.it in collaboration with NERO magazine from Rome. The Poznan version brings together new threads of thought on the muddy time thesis in the form of a physical exhibition at Galeria Stereo. A book culling together all of the artists and writers plus new contributors launches in Oct. 2011 in Poznan.

Melanchotopia at Witte de With, Rotterdam

by mousse

September 7~2011

Witte de With’s “Melanchotopia” is an exhibition that invites more than forty international artists to work with different venues in the city-center of Rotterdam – places where people live and work – and to activate their potential as spaces for ideas, discourse and invention.

From large-scale interventions to very simple gestures, Melanchotopia supports a range of artistic practices that go beyond the classical approach to displaying art in public space. Working with the existing dynamics of the city, Witte de With’s intention is to bring forward the diverse layers of daily life in Rotterdam, creating a rich framework for subjective encounters. It is an exhibition about the reality of Rotterdam.

Andrea Zittel “Pattern of Habit” at Sprüth Magers, Berlin

by mousse

September 6~2011

“For the last twenty years my work in one way or another has examined how psychological structures, thought systems and beliefs are manifested as physical objects in the world that we create around ourselves. Most recently this research has focused on the patterns and systems that are bound to habits, schedules and rules. For instance, I live in the desert where there all of my day to day necessities are ordered on-line, and delivered to my doorstep – a never ending stream of products, each carefully packed in its own cardboard box. After I unpack it’s contents I eye the box thinking that it is a shame to throw out such a perfect vehicle – especially if it has special proportions or clearly crisp edges and corners. Soon I found myself stacking the boxes up along an empty wall, eventually devising a way to cement this irregular structure together into an integrated unit that reflects a pattern of my own life through consumption.

“Constitution of the Damned” at Landings, Norway

by mousse

September 2~2011

It all started as a research project. Or rather a compulsive and at times erratic search for constitutions and manifestos of self-organisation—an unwieldy archive commissioned by Tranzit for Manifesta 8. “Constitution of the Damned” is an attempt to return to this material and give space to the agency and restless movement of these ordering systems and alternative models of collective life. At the heart of this exploration is the question of how unruly documents, all of which share a certain desire for activation in the present, acquire a level of potentiality after the fact.
