Adriano Amaral “Fixed Action Pattern” at SpazioA, Pistoia
SpazioA is proud to present “Fixed Action Pattern” the first solo exhibition in Italy by the Brazilian artist Adriano Amaral.
The artist’s concerns encompass an examination of the nature of things: the stuff of the world, the materiality and substance of it. His interventions are subtle, made of short movements based on low-intensity behaviors, in the sense of something floor or even earth bound, upon which things remain and rise. That’s not to say there aren’t moments of decision, of deliberate intervention, whether it be a particular bend in a neon tube or in adding one insoluble liquid to another.
The work done here is not so much about imposing oneself as allowing things to emerge and then to be. Making room for rest, where inactivity becomes potent. There is an intense exploration of materials resulting in a kind of alchemical turn, where a vegetable substance might respond to something more synthetic, suggesting yet another being altogether or even questioning its own presence.
