Sentries

FOREWORD:

The show is a chorus of related qualities and times.

The relatedness of these qualities and times is inherent within the groups of things themselves and promised between these groups.

Groups of works consist of the audible and the visible and the inaudible and the invisible, or, the gaps that these proper- ties rest in while transmitting and receiving various forms of the other.

These gaps can be seen, heard, and touched, which is in some ways friendly but also feels like the proximity that Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, Kabir, and Pacino advise you to have to your enemy.

ILLUSTRATION:

The elevator to Kabul has a vent on its operation panel that can be played like a thumb-piano and is tuned to B, C#, D, Bb, C#7.

INDEX:

I. Grocery Divider Sound Emitters, 2016 – 2017

Aluminum and plastic grocery dividers, aluminum tubing, brass tubing, glass beads, rice, epoxy resin, aluminum, screws. Dimensions variable.
I. Hole patterns of various sequences drilled through the hollow dividers, metal tubing implanted and cut-to- t. ii. Aggregate material on the interior of the dividers resonates on the exteriors of the tubes when lifted and turned. iii. The dividers rest on sequenced aluminum corner-stock at xed heights and laterally spaced, arranged as if on a digital audio-editing timeline projected in one-point perspective.

Lines turn to waves, transaction prosthetics as analog instruments for unrepeatable songs (rain). A hole in a gap must be one from which the rst vanishing points in perspectival drawing fell out of.
II. Clock, 2016 –
Steel. Dimensions variable

i. (.dxf ) le, lasered stainless steel hung above head-height. An ornament or device.
ii. Previously exhibited twice, this is its third multiple and is accompanied by arrangements of its past versions.
An auto-chronology being seen through a black hole, or a document in edit-mode.
III. The Non-Attached, 2017
16mm lm transferred to HD video, stereo sound. 4’05” intermittent loop.
i. 16mm lm roll shot twice by two imaging devices: rst accidentally by a high-energy x-ray scanner, the second time purposefully inside a Bolex camera.
ii. The rst imaging device is visible as an abstraction of itself and acts like the ground that subsequent images rest on. A lm roll as a place in which a people or party or organization might emerge or get stuck inside.
IV. Seconds, 2016-2017
Digital video, stereo sound, 08’09’’ intermittent loop.
i. Mixed found footage
Found footage, mixed.
V. Treble, 2017
Lathe-turned brass. 10cm x 3cm x 3cm
i. Made in an inverted process of key-copying.
ii. A brass rod was cut in the image of a key while being rotated.
The imagined space a key traverses while turning inside a lock, kept in someone’s pocket.
VI. 909, 2017.
Lathe-turned stainless steel.
i. Made in an inverted process of key-copying.
ii. A stainless steel rod was cut in the image of a key while being rotated.
