Luigi Presicce,  Allegoria astratta dell’atelier del pittore all’inferno tra le punte gemelle

Allegoria astratta dell’atelier del pittore all’inferno tra le punte gemelle (Abstract Allegory of the Artist’s Studio in Hell between the Twin Peaks), born of various iconographic suggestions which, however distant, have points in common. The centre of the scene, developed as a tableau vivant, tries to reproduce on stage The Artist’s Studio by Gustave Courbet, a huge canvas preserved in Paris in the Musee d’Orsay. This merges with the scene from Twin Peaks where Agent Cooper enters hell through a secret passage in the woods. The presence of the Venus-muse in both scenes brings the two images close, bound together also by a strobe light and a red background that makes the environment more motionless and surreal. The figure of the artist in front of a hanging canvas to paint on refers to one of the great masters of Italian Abstractionism, Emilio Vedova, who, in some ways, after having actually developed a following, was not followed by the new generations spoiled by figurative and representative painting. Besides being a tribute, the presence of the “great master” is also a reference to the secret teachings of masonic mythology, which always falls within the semiotic unconscious of all recent works.

The spectator, as an initiate, is introduced into the environment of the scene (one at a time), guided by a sort of Charon, that takes him/her to the centre of the tableau vivant to learn the techniques of painting. On the way to reaching the master, the spectator is obliged to pass through two groups of motionless bystanders that reproduce, as in the allegory of the painting, two different social classes, the intellectuals and the people. As if brought to trial, the spectator’s visit ends in a few minutes.

Francesca Grilli, Arriverà e ci coglierà di sorpresa

I asked to two elderly dancers, over 65 years old, to perform tango for 3 hours no stop.
The project springs from a memory, an image vivid in my mind but also a common scenario in the region where I have grown up and part of my family history. This work focuses on the passing of time, death and beauty.
They dance infront of a video projection of an empty dancehall, a spot light is following them.
The audience is free to dance.
